At the end of 1924 the Bank of Liverpool and Martins closes the former Salterforth
Branch of the Craven Bank, and moves it from Salterforth Old School to new
premises in Main Street. However, following the merger of the Bank
of Liverpool and Martins and the Lancashire and Yorkshire Bank, a number of
smaller sub-Branches are sought out for closure. |

This represents a time of
great expense for the newly formed Martins Bank Limited - the building of a
sumptuous new Head Office in Liverpool, and the rebuilding of 68 Lombard
Street London, site of the original “Grasshopper” banking business does not
come cheap. Salterforth survives in
its new premises at Main Street for only six years… |
