THE GRASSHOPPER PENSIONERS’ CLUB

The Grasshopper Pensioners’ Club is an official social organisation - supported  by Barclays - for the benefit of Members of Staff of Martins Bank Limited.   Members get together several times a year and keep in touch through the club’s Newsletter, for which Martins Bank Archive carries the most recent editions.  The latest of these are available now, and you can read and download them to keep by clicking on the relevant image (right).

Reading the online version does NOT prevent members being able to receive a PAPER copy of the Newsletter, if that is their already expressed preference.  Earlier editions of the newsletter can also be accessed by clicking on the images further down this page.  If you are a member of Martins Bank Staff and would like to contribute to the newsletter, if you would like to find out about joining our Club, or if you would like a paper copy of the latest newsletter, please email Club Secretary, Dave Baldwin at the following address:

IMPORTANT NEWS  - MARTINS BANK STAFF DATABASE

I would like to draw the attention of Club Members to the completion of the first major phase of the Martins Bank Staff Database.  The career details have been put together from the information published by Martins Bank in its magazine and other publications, and has been in the public domain for at least fifty-five years. It is vital that members of Martins Bank’s staff have the opportunity to see the career details held for them, and to understand about how and why the database exists as a social history resource that seeks to preserve the name of Martins Bank for the interest of future generations.

Please CLICK HERE or on the image of the NEWS RELEASE pictured (left) to obtain this information, and if, once you have read it, you would like to receive your career details, please do get in touch with the archive by email at the following address: martinsbankarchive@btinternet.com.    I would also like to thank those of you who have been so kind as to provide extra detail, information and photographs, those who have already accessed their career details, and  those surviving partners of former staff, who were able to use the database to help them claim pensions that were owed to them.

With best regards,

Jonathan 24 July 2024

NOTICEBOARD

Bereavement

A Message from the Grasshopper Club Committee

We understand that the death of a loved-one is difficult at the best of times, but it is made even more challenging by the current COVID 19 pandemic. The accompanying guide has details on how best to notify Willis Towers Watson of your loss which will enable your benefits to be paid as soon as is physically possible.

However, should you experience any problems whatsoever, please do not hesitate to make contact with me so that I can attempt to bring about a swift resolution to your problems although I am unable to guarantee success.

If you still have your bank account(s) with Barclays then click on this link for further practical advice:

In the meantime, we hope that all of our former colleagues will continue to enjoy good health and to see as many as possible at our forthcoming Regional Lunches once ‘Lockdown’ ends and we get back to normal daily life.

Your Committee,

The Grasshopper Pensioners’ Club.

COVID-19 A MESSAGE FROM THE PENSION FUND TRUSTEES

Dear Pensioners Club,

A message from the Trustee of the Barclays Bank UK Retirement Fund (UKRF).

Our thoughts at this time are with our members and their families.

We would like to reassure you that we have reviewed our resilience plans and those of our suppliers in light of the operational challenges posed by COVID-

19. We do not expect there to be any impact on our ability to continue to pay pensions to members.

We will continue to monitor the situation around the developing COVID-19 outbreak closely and communicate with you again when appropriate.

Kind regards

Jenny O’Connor

APPLICATION FORM FOR LIFETIME CLUB MEMBERSHIP

The Grasshopper Pensioners’ Club is now a NATIONAL organisation, supported by Barclays, and open to all members of the staff of Martins Bank. An application for LIFETIME membership of the Club, is provided here. Please click on the form to open a printable PDF version for you to complete. As the Martins Bank Archive WEB SITE is available to everyone who visits it, those who have worked for Martins Bank but are not members of the Grasshopper Club are still invited to contribute their news items and memories of the Bank to our future Newsletters.  Especially at this most uncertain point in our history, it is an unfortunate fact of life that death is inevitable.  It is however, nice to be remembered by your family, friends and former work colleagues.  With this in mind, can I ask EVERYONE, whether or not you are already a Member of the Grasshopper Club, to advise me should one of your former Martins colleagues die, so that their memory can be properly marked and celebrated?

Dave Baldwin, Secretary, Grasshopper Pensioners’ club. e-mail grasshoppers@btinternet.com.
