It’s time for a change at Rawtenstall, and
as 1960 dawns, Martins’ original branch in another part of the appropriately
named Bank Street, is no longer fit for purpose. The Bank receives the keys to the new door
on 22 Sep 1960, and shortly afterwards moves in to what will become the Bank’s
home in Rawtenstall right up to the present day.
In our “Then and a little bit later” comparison below, we have a great colour image of the branch from 1975,
complete with its Barclays signage, and looking remarkably like a pub! We are fortunate also to have a couple of
interior pictures from Martins’ times in the building, and the Bank’s almost
fanatical passion for contemporary
branch design does not disappoint:
