We are indebted to Mary Robinson
who is featured here at the celebration party for the opening of Martins
Bank’s new Wellingborough Branch in August 1967. One of the last of the new generation of
the Bank’s Branches to open, Wellingborough joins the Branch Network at a
time when adding more and more offices is still seen as the answer to
increasing business and profitability.
Typical of most branch openings of the time, a cocktail party is held in celebration, and as a
vehicle to court prospective customers to leave their existing banks.
