With great fanfare in the local
newspaper on 26 July 1963, Martins Bank announces both the closure of its temporary
branch at 42 Eastgate Row Chester, and the re-opening of the permanent branch
at 35 Eastgate – a much loved building which has undergone almost a year of
extensive and sympathetic internal modernisation. This is the year when the
400th anniversary of Martins Bank is celebrated, and the Bank is
spending a forune on building new offices, and on expensive revamps of
existing ones… |
In Service: August 1962 until Saturday 27 July 1963 |

Another feature of this branch
replacement programme is the use of advertising which incorporates details of
the companies involved in building, re-building or re-fitting a branch. This spread in the Cheshire Observer has
very little news content, but it still manages to “make a splash”. Only one image survives of newly designed
interior at 35 Eastgate, which you can see by visiting our page for that
branch, HERE |
