At one time or another,
Colne Branch is in charge of a number of sub-Branches at COLNE
MARKET STREET, COLNE
AUCTION MART, COTTONTREE, Foulridge, LANESHAWBRIDGE, PRIMET BRIDGE and also at TRAWDEN, the only sub-branch to survive until the
merger with Barclays. Foulridge is an
original Branch of the Craven Bank, which merges with the Bank of Liverpool
in 1906, and has outlets both in
Lancashire and Yorkshire. |

In the days before mass car ownership, cash machines
and all manner of mobile devices, these small Branches are an economic
lifeline for the communities they serve. However, whilst serving customers
for two hours on a Friday doesn’t really sound like a sustainable economic
success story, Foulridge must have been a special case, as it makes it all
the way to 1950, without even having to close for the Second World War. Image © Kelly’s Directory 1924 and University of Leicester Historical Directories.org. |
