wind of change…
Following the absorption of Messrs Wakefield
Crewdson’s Kendal Bank in 1893, the Bank of Liverpool embarks on an expansion
that will introduce new Branches, sub-Branches and even agencies to the
medium and small sized towns and villages of Cumberland and Westmorland. Orton sub-Branch opens in 1895 and it is
one of five sub offices to Kirkby Stephen that have been opened over the
years. It is pictured here in its Martins days. Orton manages one year after
the 1969 merger before the axe falls, and this lovely little sub-Branch
becomes someone’s front room once more…
