It’s an expensive business…
Like many of Martins Bank’s village
sub-Branches, Hornby looks simply like the house next door because that’s
exactly what it is. Business hours are different to those of the larger
offices. Some are open only one or two
days each week, to serve the local area. Nevertheless, the staff are always
happy go to extremes to be helpful… Hornby survives the merger, but is eventually
closed by Barclays, who, having acquired so many tiny sub offices, face the
task of consolidating their position – sub-Branches will only survive if they
can pay for themselves through the business they generate. Sending two
members of staff out twice a week to run a branch such as Hornby, which only
opens for a total of nine hours, is an expensive business.
