Just quietly getting on
with the job… It’s all a bit unusual
really – so many of Martins Bank’s Yorkshire branches have star billing,
visits and pictures in Martins Bank Magazine, and a full gallery of staff
images, but Rotherham doesn’t. This
branch seems to have slipped by into the past without a mention, having
quietly got on with the job for thirty years.
This leaves us a little short of material for Rotherham’s page in our
Archive. |

Whilst there is little that we can tell you about
Rotherham Branch, we are indeed fortunate to have a selection of images, and
we have found four members of the staff for our gallery below. There is always
the hope that one of you out there visiting our online archive might have
memories or pictures that will help us give Rotherham branch a more prominent
feature article. If you can help with images
and/or information about this or any of Martins Bank’s 1000 Branch Buildings,
please do get in touch with us at the usual address martinsbankarchive@btinternet.com. Rotherham is part
of Martins Bank’s Leeds District and is opened in 1947 by Manager Mr C
Tindall. This
photograph (left) shows how the interior of the branch looked at that time,
until the branch refurbishment programme of the mid-1960s. Typical of many refurbishments, Rotherham is brought
up to date in 1965 with a sleek wood fronted counter (still without the need
for security grilles) and a functional back office more suited to the
computer age that is about to turn branch banking on its head… |
