The position of Martins Bank’s portfolio of Cattle Market Branches
becomes a little silly at the time of the Bank’s creation in 1928.  This is because the Bank of Liverpool and Martins,
AND the Lancashire and Yorkshire Bank each have their own Agencies at no less
than three sites – Liverpool Stanley, Salford, and Wakefield!  Something will, of course, have to give,
and it is the plans for a new abattoir at Stanley that dictates the fate of
  both Agencies.  The Lancashire and
Yorkshire agency is closed in 1928, and the Bank of Liverpool and Martins
Agency stays open until a new purpose built branch is available at the the
new Stanley Abattoir in 1930. |
