Martins Bank spends a small fortune in the 1960s
upgrading old branch premises, sometimes even knocking down and completely re-building
them. New branches are opened, and old ones brought into the twentieth
Century. At Newcastle Wingrove is it necessary to move out of 446 Westgate
Road and take temporary premises a short distance away at West Oakwood. |

It typically takes anything up to eighteen
months to complete a Branch re-building project, and on 22 July 1963, work on
the new look wingrove Branch is complete and the temporary premises are
vacated. Sadly we have not yet been
able to track down an image of the temporary Branch premises, but on our WINGROVE page
you can see how the permanent Branch looked both before and after its
“makeover”… |
