Martins Bank’s Branch at Bexhill on Sea is subject to fair amount of
disruption and upheaval, as recorded
by Alan Hill in his 1984 Booklet, MARTINS
BANK BRANCHES IN SUSSEX.
Having only just opened a branch at 45 Devonshire Road in March 1939,
Martins Bank is forced to close it again end of 1940 when the town has to be
evacuated following the Fall of France.
Accordingly, Bexhill Branch transfers its business to EASTBOURNE 23 SEASIDE for the next five and a half years before
re-opening back in Bexhill in 1946, this time at 18 Devonshire Road. Another
sixteen years elapse and then the branch is rebuilt! From 1961 to 1962 Bexhill moves to yet
another temporary address, 18
Parkhurst Road, whilst the work is completed. We have no images of this
short-lived branch, and if you can help with photos of this or any of Martins
Bank’s 1000+ Branch buildings, please do get in touch with us at the usual
address —martinsbankarchive@btinternet.com. |
