As if a cluster of four
branches in Bootle, Liverpool was not confusing enough, (many situated in the
same road as each other), a similar situation occurs in Manchester with
Martins Bank’s Branches in the Cheetham area. Now pay attention, there might
well be test afterwards:  There is CHEETHAM
  BRANCH itself – that’s
No 25 Cheetham Hill Road.  Then of
course there’s Cheetham Hill Road Branch, that’s at No 209a Cheetham Hill
Road, BUT originally it is known as Cheetham Hill Branch.
Until 1941 there was a branch at NO 87 CHEETHAM HILL ROAD, that also came to Martins from the Lancashire and
Yorkshire Bank, and this was originally known as Cheetham Branch.
 Confused? – you are not
alone.  Where 209a Cheetham Hill Road
meets Elizabeth Street, and does, like so many others straddle a corner,
giving Martins Bank prominence in both streets at the same time.  There is a small amount of ornamental
stonework which was added to give a sense of security to this otherwise red
  brick street corner.    |

branch to Cheetham, but still opens for more than twenty hours each week
  including Saturdays.  The Branch at
209a Cheetham Hill Road survives until 1973…
