In 1880 the
Craven Bank becomes a limited company, and since the establishment of the
bank in 1791, four different partnerships have built the business to the
stage where there are seven main and ten sub branches, one of which is this
one at Long Preston.
By
the time Martins Bank merges with Barclays, Long Preston has had a bank for
nearly ninety years. It is easy to see why the prospect of branch closure is
a difficult one for those who have always known or used one, even one that
only opens once a week on a Friday for just three hours…
