According to records still held by Barclays Group
Archives, Shoreham is closed down on the same day that another sub branch (this
time with Sevenoaks as the parent branch) is opened at Otford. The following comment is recorded: “Otford
branch was opened on this date {30/06/1928}, so the operation was really a
move down the valley to what had become the more important place”. We are aware
that Shoreham opened only on Thursdays, and the idea that Otford was a more
“important” place to do business is upheld by its much longer opening times:
1100-1530 Monday to Friday, and 0930-1130 on Saturday. |
