The Bank of Liverpool and Martins opens a sub Branch at Penrith Auction
Mart in 1919. Martins Bank’s Auction Mart sub-Branches can be found all over the
North of England, and are more commonly known as Cattle Market Sub Branches
in the South and in Wales.
These
offices are invariably very busy, providing a service for farmers and
livestock buyers, and they also represent a great deal of hard work for the staff
of Martins Bank who often end their shift up to their eyeballs in banknotes
to be counted – for a good example of this, why not read about life at
Martins Bank’s YORK CATTLE MARKET sub-Branch.
