A new sub branch to Ferryhill opens at Chilton in
1965, as part of Martins Bank’s branch network expansion programme. This office opens for just eight hours each
week spread over four days, which would indicate a modest business from local
private customers and businesses, but not enough to maintain a outlet like
this. However, Chilton does mange to survive
the merger with Barclays by almost
twenty years, and it remains open for business until the doors of this
handsome little branch are closed for good in March 1988.
