Cleveleys
is a former branch of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Bank Limited, who have a
network of branches in Blackpool and the Fylde Coast. In 1922 it is a sub office to Blackpool, and
along with the L and Y Bank’s other branches at Blackpool Corporation Street,
Blackpool Lytham Road and Blackpool South Shore, it is under the control of
two of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Bank’s Managers, Mr W Carrington and Mr C
H Bracewell. By the end of the 1960s
Cleveleys Branch has outgrown its original property, and a new office is
opened at 2a The Crescent. In 1968 Martins friends and colleagues gather at
Cleveleys to say goodbye to Mr Heathcote, Branch Manager for the previous
nine years. As ever, Martins Bank
Magazine is on hand to describe the festivities…

over thirty friends and colleagues
gathered at Cleveleys branch on July 31 to say farewell to Mr Sydney R.
Heathcote, retiring after 44 years in the Bank. Manchester District Office
was represented by Mr W. P. Glover and Miss M. E. Goddard: also present was
Mr E. H. Priestley, retired District General Manager. Mr and Mrs Heathcote
entertained the company to refreshments, and a cheque, to be used towards the
purchase of a camera and projector, was presented by Mr N. S. Lamb who paid
tribute to Mr Heathcote. Mrs Heathcote received a bouquet from Miss Ingrid
Smith. In his reply Mr Heathcote
amused everyone with anecdotes of his days as junior in the Bank. He had
started at Hulme and had served at many branches in the Manchester District,
becoming Clerk-in-Charge at All Saints in 1958 and Manager at Cleveleys a
year later.
