The
early records of the Craven Bank show they have an account holder in the
village of Gargrave as long ago as 1792.
By 1906, when the Craven is merged with the Bank of Liverpool, it has
fourteen full and twenty six sub branches – including one at Gargrave – to
add to the ever expanding Bank of Liverpool portfolio. 4 In
our image, the Bank shares part of the Gargrave Village Institute in order to
bring a local banking service to private residents and business people. In the 1960s Martins’ Gargrave sub-Branch
opens for three and a half hours each week, and complements the service at
Skipton’s other sub branches. Gargrave survives the merger and makes it into
the 1990s as a sub branch of Barclays.
