Martins Bank’s structure is based on District Boards and
Offices. District Offices are spread throughout the country, each one acting as a kind of “Local
Head Office” for staff who work in the local branches and departments. This
way of doing business goes back to the various amalgamations of regional
banks into what became Martins Bank, where often provision was made as part
of an amalgamation to retain some kind of local accountability and authority.
It also serves a very practical purpose – local
offices use their knowledge of their own particular area to look after the
specific banking needs of their customers and businesses. Click on any of the nine districts shown on
this page, to learn more about each diverse area. It should be noted however, that the Craven
and Northern Districts do not have their own district office, but they do exercise
a small degree of local autonomy. Skipton is considered to be the principal
branch in Craven, and similarly, Kendal is the principal branch of the
Northern District.
