The Lancashire and Yorkshire Bank opens this sub-Branch to
its Rochdale Yorkshire Street Branch in 1911. In 1919 when the Bank of Liverpool
and Martins absorbs the Palatine Bank, they also find themselves with a main
Branch and a sub Branch at Rochdale. When everyone merge in 1928, this gives
Rochdale FOUR branches of the newly created Martins Bank! This image of Rochdale Smallbridge
sub-branch is taken about ten years after the 1928 merger of the Lancashire
and Yorkshire Bank with the Bank of Liverpool and Martins.  It is the smaller of Rochdale’s two
sub-branches, the other – at BUERSIL – is self accounting, and open for the full banking
week.  Both make it into the hands of
Barclays in 1969, but Smallbridge closes first – in 1989 – followed by
  Buersil in 1992. |

 In Service: 1911 until 28 April 1989
