Rochdale South Parade and the sub-Branch at Buersil are original
Branches of the Palatine Bank, which are absorbed into Bank of Liverpool and Martins
in 1919. These are therefore well established offices by the time of the
creation of Martins Bank Limited in 1928, when a further THREE Rochdale area
branches – Yorkshire Street, Littleborough and Smallbridge – are added from
the portfolio of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Bank. |

As for the two branches in Rochdale town centre, we have seen elsewhere in
our Archive that duplication of branches often results in the closure of one
or more Branches, and in 1928 Martins Bank takes the decision to close South
Parade in favour of the larger former Lancashire and Yorkshire Bank Branch in
Yorkshire Street. |
