These are the Manchester Branches of the Bank of Liverpool and Martins,
just before it amalgamates with the Lancashire and Yorkshire Bank to create the
modern day Martins Bank in 1928. Following the acquisition of the branches of
the Palatine Bank in 1919, the Bank of Liverpool and Martins opens branches
at 99 Shudehill in 1921, and at Hightown in 1925. The Lancashire and Yorkshire Bank’s
Manchester Branches will of course swell considierably the number of Branches
in the City, and without much duplication either. One exception however, is the Bank’s Branch
at Shudehill, and the decision is taken to keep the Lancashire and Yorkshire
Branch at No 77, and to close the Branch at No 99. |

There are unlikely to be any photographs of this short-lived branch, but
we do at least have the printed records on this page to record the existence
of 99 Shudehill as a Branch of Martins Bank… |
