Formby is
another example of the kind of grand design favoured by the Bank of
Liverpool, and this building at Chapel Lane has been used continuously as a bank
branch since 1910. Our thanks go to Michael Mawdsley, who has kindly supplied
this wonderful image of Formby Branch from a snap he took in the late 1950s.
Just a few years later, it is all change for Formby, with an extension added,
and beautiful interior décor. |

Between 1962 and 1963 Martins Bank rebuilds, reconstructs
or generally modernises a large number of branches across the country. Some of these have changed little since
being inherited from the myriad banks that amalgamated with the Bank of
Liverpool and Martins, and are therefore desperate to be brought up to twentieth
century standards. Martins Bank
Magazine is keen to show off the newly refurbished branch at Formby in 1962: |
