Higher Irlam
opens in 1967, a new building that is a whole world away from its parent
branch at IRLAM. Unlike many of the new branches and sub
branches opened by Martins Bank in the mid to late sixties, Higher Irlam is
considered to have a future with Barclays, who accordingly keep the branch on
their books for almost twenty years after the merger. Irlam itself lasts a
little longer, closing its doors for the last time in 1992 and closing a
chapter in the story of Martins Bank in this part of Manchester. |
